about me

Hi there,

I am Alfiya Yakupova. I am a professional qualified and experienced tutor in individual and group   Russian teaching. I have been teaching Russian for over 15 years. I am a tutor in Russian, a freelance   interpreter, translator and a tour guide.

I graduated from Irkutsk State Linguistic University in Russia in 1996 with MA degree in linguistics with specialization in translations and in teaching Russian, English and German. My master’s thesis was presented in order to obtain the professional qualifications in Teaching and Translating.

In 1999 I studied at the Open Society Institute-Samara where I attended Soros Intensive Teacher Training Course for University Instructors in Samara Russia.

In 2000 I finished the course in ‘Improvement of Professional Skills on Teaching Methodology of Foreign Languages’ at Kazan State University in Russia.

In 2005 I attended the Conversational Spanish course in Spanish Centre of Education and Culture at Kazan State University.

In 2012 I completed the HND Tourism and Languages course at Edinburgh Stevenson college with A-Levels.

Back to Russia I worked as a lecturer in English at Kazan State Teaching University and at Kazan State University as a senior lecturer in Russian and English. I participated as a tutor in English in the Presidential Programme of Russia by giving lectures on Business English for top managers, directors of companies and firms and businessmen to take part in international business as Russia opened up to worldwide and free trade. 10 of my former students went onto internships in Greece, Italy, Denmark, Germany and Japan after finishing this programme.

I am the author of four scientific publications in the field of linguistic relations in Russian, English and Tatar:

  1. Yakupova A.S, Vasilieva S.G. Proverbs with a ‘water’ component in the Russian, Tatar and English languages. Russian and Comparative linguistics: state and perspectives. – Kazan, 2004. – P. 98-99.
  2. Yakupova A.S. Interlinguistic analysis of phraseological units as a base to reconstruct ethnocognitive prototypes (based on phraseological units with ‘water’ components in Russian, Tatar and English). – Kazan, 2003. – P. 195-196.
  3. Yakupova A.S. Metaphor in the sphere of nouns having a meaning of water space in Russian, Tatar and English. – Kazan, 2002. – P.270-271.
  4. Yakupova A.S. Comparative analysis of lexemes’ polysemy development in the lexical-semantic group ‘natural landscape’ in Russian, Tatar and English. – Kazan, 2002. – P. 152-154.

I have been researching lexical-semantic relations in Russian, English and Tatar based on the comparative analysis of the lexical-semantic group ‘natural landscape’. I took part in the Linguistic Conferences held at Kazan State University and two International Conferences held in Kazan and Samara, Russia.

While living in the UK (Edinburgh) I have worked as a freelance tutor, translator and tour guide for individuals and for companies such as Scottish&Newcastle (interpreting services for Okean Elzy rock band and Ukrainian Delegates from Baltika Beverage Holdings as well as Ukrainian Politicians visiting Edinburgh and London), Scottish Parliament (interpreting services for Azeri Parliamentarians by meeting the Editing and Publishing Department and interpreting the Official Report of Editorial Support Team during the meeting of the Finance Committee), NHS (‘Access to Primary Healthcare Services in the Urals, Russia’ project), Rudolf Steiner School (GCSE Russian preparation) and Cupid Plc (Russian course for the staff).

I am really proud of the fact that among my students are people of different ages, knowledge of Russian and purposes of learning it and who are professionals in different fields (languages, science, teaching, business, sales and marketing, medical research, social work, etc.).
